Saskatoon Berry Compote

$9.95

Saskatoon berries - Misâskwatômina - Serviceberries - Juneberries - Sugar plum (Amelanchier alnifolia) are delicious berries from the prairies that have a similar taste to wild blueberries with a distinctive cherry almond flavour. In areas where they are abundant, they are often used fresh in pies. Slow cooked, they gain a unique almond-like after taste. They are most often used like other berries, consumed directly on toast, ice cream, yogurt, or added to fruit salads. Saskatoon berries have a thicker skin than other purple fruit berries and as a result there is more texture to saskatoon compote than other berries such as blueberries and haskap.

All most top notch

These berries were very tasty but not quite a 5 star review in my opinion as I have had better. Slightly tart in flavour? Maybe the cooking process as I have eaten them raw and they were much sweeter.

I had never had Saskatoon berry before, has a nice little tangy like cranberry. Great on toast or in oatmeal
