Haskap is the berry of the blue honeysuckle plant aka Lonicera caerulea. While there are many North American honeysuckle varieties, very few are edible and edible varieties are considered at risk or endangered. Blue honeysuckle is a varietal with origins in Northern Siberia and Japan where it was named "Many fruits on branches" and as such is not a true Canadian wild food. However, much of Canada is ideal for growing Haskap and as a result it is slowly being picked up by berry farmers the country over. Its blueberry, grape, raspberry-like flavour is stunning, especially if picked in dry weather, as ours are.
