Candy Cap Mushrooms
Candy cap mushroom (Lactarius helvus) are also known as maple syrup mushrooms and burnt sugar milkies. It is unique and very special mushroom because, unlike most mushrooms, it's used not eaten as a mushroom but used as a flavouring. They do not taste like mushrooms at all, but sweet , almost like maple syrup, and they smell much like sugar does when it's hot. They are just one mushroom in the super interesting genus lactarius. Also in this genus are mushrooms that smell and taste like coconut, curry, fenugreek and even seafood.
Candy caps are a real treat for chefs and inventive cooks who want to create surprising desserts. It's a wonderful flavour for ice cream or custard, as it marries especially well with milk and cream. Very quick shipping but, nothing like the photo. Mostly Very tiny or crushed. Seems like the bottom of the bin. They smell great but I didn't expect to. Receive mostly dust. I did buy 2 mushroom multi packs and they were all beautiful and nice sized pieces.
Sorry you are not happy with the cany cap mushrooms, because of their water content they need to be broken up into small pieces before drying to prevent mold, this is not as important with other varieties of mushrooms that dry much easier and can be sliced larger. If you are unhappy with the quality or flavour you are welcome to return them.

This product totally lived up to my expectations. I have used the Candy Cap Mushrooms in several recipes and LOVED them! We made candy cap shortbread and it was amazing.
